Deutsche Bank announced the appointment of Malcolm D. Knight as a vice chairman, reporting to Josef Ackermann, chairman of the management board and the group executive committee. The appointment will become effective on 6 October 2008.
Knight, 64, who has been general manager and CEO of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) since 2003, announced his departure from the BIS.
Working closely with the bank’s regulatory affairs group, Knight, a Canadian citizen, whose role will be non-executive, will oversee the firm’s relationships and interaction with global regulators and central banks on behalf of the management board. Knight, who will be based in New York, will spend substantial time in Berlin, Brussels, London and Washington.
“I am very pleased that Malcolm is joining Deutsche Bank. He brings a wealth of experience in international finance that is particularly valuable in these challenging times for our industry,” says Ackermann.
From 1999 to 2003 Knight was Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada. He was the Bank’s chief operating officer and a member of its board of directors. From 1975 to 1999 he was with the International Monetary Fund, where he held senior positions in both research and operations. While at the IMF, Knight was also an adjunct professor at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. Prior to joining the IMF, he served on the economics faculties of the London School of Economics and Political Science and the University of Toronto.
