The Securities Industry Association (SIA) announced that it will host its first-ever conference in the People’s Republic of China.
“China’s Capital Markets: Competing in Today’s Global Economy” aims to bring together key industry, government and regulatory leaders and market participants from China and around the world to explore topics such as innovative financial products and services, legal issues and international best practices in the global marketplace. Organized in collaboration with Tsinghua University, the conference will take place in Beijing from October 18-19, 2005.
Featured speakers will include Hon. John W. Snow, Secretary, Department of the U.S. Treasury; Zhou Xiaochuan (invited), Governor, People’s Bank of China; Hon. Christopher Cox, Chairman, U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission; Shang Fulin, Chairman, China Securities Regulatory Commission; and Hon. Reuben Jeffery III, Chairman, U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Additionally, the People’s Bank of China and the China Securities Regulatory Commission will join the event as supporters.

Lackritz, president of the Securities Industry Association. “This presents an historic opportunity for us to share best practices and explore new ways in which China’s capital markets can reach their full potential.
