The Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) has confirmed that it aims to extend its trading hours in the near future.

WSE has prepared and revealed three possible session schedules. “The most important change according to the presented proposals could be continuous trading in equities to possibly start at 9:00 am or at 9:30 am and to end at 4:00 pm or at 4:40 pm, a significant extension of trading hours in comparison to the currently valid session schedule from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm,” Krzysztof Pekrul, head of Custody at Bank BPH, said.

The formal closing of the WSE trading session could be set as late as 5:10 pm. The prolonged session schedule would be valid for both, the spot and the derivative instruments market, with the exception of futures on T-Bonds which would continue to be traded within the currently valid schedule from 9:00am until 4:35pm.

According to the unofficial information from WSE representatives, who claim that extended trading hours might help in generating higher volumes on the market, the prolonged trading session could become effective from September 2005.

We will participate in the ongoing discussion concerning the proposals, taking into account investors’ interest and safety of the settlement process,” Pekrul said.
