BNY Mellon has appointed Edward Watson as executive vice president and chief operating officer, a newly created position in the company.

Watson will be a member of BNY Mellons global Operating Committee and will report to Kurt Woetzel, the companys head of global operations and technology and chief administrative officer.

Prior to joining BNY Mellon, Watson was executive vice president for operations, technology and general services for Fannie Mae, where he was responsible for development, infrastructure and operations services. He has previously served as global head of capital markets operations and Institutional Clients Group business services at Citigroup, and has held senior positions at Republic Bank and Shearson Lehman Brothers.

“Ed’s new role is key to driving operational excellence across our global organization,” Woetzel says. “In addition to leading the centralization of certain operations, Ed will oversee operational activities in our global delivery centers and have responsibility for operations functions that today reside in our businesses.”
